Supreme Court Ruling on Turkish Officers' Extradition Expected Soon

During the immediate aftermath of the failed military coup in Turkey in July of this year, eight Turkish military officers landed their helicopter in Alexandroupoli.
Now it is up to the Supreme Court of Greece to decide if the military officers will be extradited and returned to their homeland or allowed to stay in Greece.
A recently a ruling by the Council of Appeals Court Judges determined that five of the eight officers in question should not be returned to Turkey, citing concerns that their lives would be in danger. The court ruled that the other three officers should be extradited.
The supreme Court is now considering appeals by the three officers facing extradition as well as an appeal regarding the rejection of the extradition of the five officers which was filed by the head of the Appeals Court prosecutor’s office, Antonis Liagos.
Sources report that the Supreme Court is expected to hand down its ruling in the next few days, possibly before the end of this week.
