Turkish Media: Greek Fishing Boats Violate Turkish Waters at Imia

Turkish newspaper Sabah reported tension between Turkish and Greek coast guard units on Monday when 10 Greek fishing boats entered the area of Imia.
According to Sabah, the Imia islets belong to Turkey and they are called Kardak. Thereby, the Greek fishermen violated Turkish territorial waters.
The report says that “Turkish coast guard boats contained Greek fishing boats and prevented them from dropping anchor in the Kardak islets, located 3.5 miles off Turkey’s Aegean coast, forcing them to return to their own territorial waters.”
After the incident, Greek coast guard boats approached Imia. Both coast guard units maintained their positions and tension ensued, the report continues.
Sabah claims that Greek coast guard boats and fishing boats from Kalymnos and Leros have sailed around Imia multiple times since late December.
