Council of State Rules TV Licenses Tender Must be Repeated as Soon as Possible

The Greek Council of State plenum on Friday said that the tender for the nationwide TV licenses must be repeated as soon as possible. The ruling reaffirms the adamant position of the court legislation that the up to date operation of the TV stations with consecutive extension of their legal operation is illegal and against the constitution, so legality must be restored and the competition be swiftly repeated.
The Council of State does not rule all the other regulations referring to the number of the licenses and the starting price as unconstitutional but considers unconstitutional the conducting of the tender by the minister.
The public interest requires high price, Digital Policy Minister Pappas says
This government will always respect the Constitution and the laws, Minister for Digital Policy, Telecommunications and information Nikos Pappas on Friday said in Parliament.
The independent authority and the political leadership must safeguard the public interest, the minister said adding that the public interest requires a high price for the operation of the TV channels.
