The Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA) on Monday appointed new chiefs of the Greek army, navy and air force, during a meeting at the Maximos Mansion chaired by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
The new chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff (HAGS) will be Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, formerly commander of the 3rd Army Corps/Nato Rapid Deployable Corps-Greece (NRDC-GR). The new head of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff (HAFGS) is Lieutenant General Christos Christodoulou, formerly commander of the Hellenic Tactical Air Force. The new Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS) chief is Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis, who until today served as the commanding officer of the Hellenic National Defence College.
There was no change to the chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS), with Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis remaining in the post.
