Turkey Sends Research Vessel 'Cesme' in Central Aegean

Turkish provocations in Greek waters continue as on Thursday evening a NAVTEX issued by the Smyrna Hydrographic Service said that the “Cesme” vessel will carry out a research mission in the central Aegean.
The NAVTEX No. 181/17 issued by Turkish authorities informed that the oceanographic research vessel “Cesme” is authorized to conduct investigations on two extended sea areas in the central and north Aegean.
“Cesme” sailed in the Aegean on Thursday to research in the area between Skyros and Psara islands in the central Aegean. Then it will move further north to the area between Agios Efstratios and Lesvos and the adjacent Turkish coast. The second area of research announced  is east of Andros and Tinos, in the heart of the Aegean.
It should be noted that the first area of operation of “Cesme” is a space which Turkey has unilaterally defined as an exercise field through a NAVTEX.
According to Thursday’s Turkish NAVTEX, research operations will continue “until further notice.”
The Greek Navy is monitoring the “Cesme” moves closely.
