Golden Dawn Trial Adjourned After Tension Escalates to Confrontation in the Courtroom

After scuffles in the courtroom broke out between the plaintiffs’ and defendants’ supporters in the trial of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn (GD) party on Tuesday, judges had to leave the courtroom and adjourn until Thursday.
The tensions leading to the scuffles resulted from witnesses of the Antipnoia anarchist group requesting to allow their supporters inside the courtroom — a request which was denied by the police. Antipnoia members then claimed that several dozen supporters of GD had been allowed inside, which led to the Antipnoia and GD members getting into a heated exchange of words followed by throwing objects such as water bottles and other projectiles at each other, sources say.
Police intervened and the trial is set to reconvene on Thursday at a makeshift courtroom set up at the prison in Korydallos instead of the Athens appeals Court.
The trial at hand involves an attack on two members from Antipnoia allegedly carried out by GD in June 2008.
