New Greece-Turkey Tension at Imia Islets

New tension was generated on Sunday between Greece and Turkey regarding the Imia islets in the Aegean, according to an ANT1 television report.
The report cited Turkish media claiming that Greek navy ships violated Turkish territorial waters six times around Imia on Sunday morning, followed by three hours of tension where each side was sending wireless messages asking the other to leave its territorial waters.
According to Turkish media, the neighboring country’s navy ships chased the Greek vessels away, claiming that the two sides came almost “face to face.” The tension stopped when a passenger ship sailed by.
A few hours earlier, a parliament member of the Kemalist Republican People’s Party, Turkey’s main opposition, claimed that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “gave” 17 Aegean islands to Greece, the report said.
