Discussions Between Church and State About Religion Classes in Public Schools Continues

On March 8-9, the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece held discussions focusing on the new stipulations that the Greek government has introduced regarding religion being taught at schools.
Following the meeting with the Holy Synod, the Archbishop of Greece, Ieronymos said that the dialogue between the state and church on this subject should proceed as discussed last October with Prime Minister Tsipras who agreed to create special committees to further discuss specifics on the issue.
One of the main concerns of the Church is what text content will be included in the new edition of the books to be taught at public schools in Greece.
Archbishop Ieronymos commented after the talks about the potential of upcoming meetings of the committees saying, “The dialogue will begin and we believe it will go well,” ekthimerini.com reported.
