New Poll in Greece Puts New Democracy 16.5 Points Ahead of SYRIZA

New Democracy leads the race by 16.5 percentage points over SYRIZA on vote intention, a new opinion poll published on Sunday shows.
According to the survey conducted on behalf of Eleftheros Typos, New Democracy would get 31 percent of the vote if general elections were held now, compared to 14.5 percent for SYRIZA.
In yet another poll, nationalists Golden Dawn are in third place with 6.7 percent, followed by the Greek Communist Party (KKE) with 5.6 percent and Democratic Coalition (PASOK-DIMAR) with 5.5 percent.
The remaining parties would not make it to parliament if elections were held today. Leftist party Plefsi Eleftherias gathered 2.6 percent, the Centrists Union (2.5 percent), junior coalition partner Independent Greeks (2 percent), Hard leftists Popular Unity (2 percent), extreme leftists ANTARSYA (2 percent) and centrists To Potami (1 percent) did not reach the required 3 percent of total vote that would put them in the House.
Asked to choose who would be most suitable for prime minister, 34.7 percent of respondents chose ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Current premier Alexis Tsipras trailed behind with 15.2 percent.
An overwhelming 86.7 percent said they believe that the government’s delaying of negotiations will only be detrimental for Greece while 75.1 percent said they were not convinced by the government’s pledge that counter-measures would be put in place to offset the impact of austerity.
Finally, eight in 10 respondents said they have a negative view of the SYRIZA-ANEL administration.
