Greek PM: No Government Reshuffle, Closer Than Ever to Debt Relief

“We are closer than ever to a substantive settlement of the debt issue. Negotiations are ongoing and will continue until May 22,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Tuesday.
The Greek prime minister visited the Ministry of Education to announce changes in the education system. He then gave a press conference where he answered questions regarding the ongoing negotiations with creditors on the bailout program review and the issue of debt restructuring. 
Tsipras said that the Greek government will take all the necessary measures after the end of the bailout program, provided that acts have been taken for debt sustainability.
“The measures were demanded by the International Monetary Fund. If we do not have a debt agreement, the IMF does not participate in the program, so the measures are not required,” Tsipras noted.
“You will allow me to not give details of the discussions that are being held, since discussions and negotiations are ongoing. And will be held until May 22, until the crucial Eurogroup. It is the first time in the Memoranda adventure that we are closing an evaluation and we are not taking measures to raise money, but we get money and we are committed to implementing the measures in the coming period, provided we have sustainability of the public debt. This is not a figure of speech, this is a reality,” the prime minister said.
On the controversial issue of countermeasures, the Greek PM said: “It is certain that we will meet the targets of primary surpluses and absolutely certain that all countermeasures will be implemented in 2019 and 2020. The non-application of countermeasures now belongs to the sphere of imagination.”
When asked about the rumor that he is planning a government reshuffle, Tsipras replied: “We had a reshuffle recently. Now it is time to run (the reforms) as fast as we can.”
