Greek PM to Meet with Political Leaders over Deal with Creditors

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will meet next week with House Speaker Nikos Voutsis and political leaders individually to discuss the agreement with creditors, a government source said.
Tsipras met today (Friday) with President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos to brief him on the results of Thursday’s Eurogroup, in which creditors agreed to close the second review of the bailout program and disburse a loan tranche of 8.5 billion euros.
A request for a discussion in parliament at the level of political leaders was made by New Democracy on the occasion of Thursday’s Eurogroup agreement and the commitments the country has undertaken.
Main opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a letter to the House Speaker for a discussion in parliament so that Greek citizens are informed comprehensively about the Eurogroup agreement and the commitments made.
In the letter, Mitsotakis requests to know why the second evaluation of the program ended with a 16-month delay, a delay “that had very high cost for Greek citizens and the economy as a whole.”
Mitsotakis also stresses that “the government has led the country to years of austerity” and concludes by saying that “in order for the Greek people to learn the truth, I ask for an agenda for a preliminary discussion on the economy, the Eurogroup decisions and the commitments the government has agreed to.”
