Injured Caretta-Caretta Returns to Santorini Beach, Land of Its Birth to Die

Greece is home to the famous Caretta caretta turtle and tourists are always on the look out to encounter the beloved turtles.
Yesterday morning on the Greek island of Santorini, tourists and residents who were visiting Santorini’s Kamari beach, saw a sad sight – an older Caretta caretta, injured by a boat’s propeller which cut his leg.
Immediately the Port, the Thira Sea Club and the Archelon were informed and provided first aid to the rare turtle, but despite the efforts of the volunteers, a few hours after being found the turtle died.
Iefimerida reported that Dimitris Kambanos, who is an experienced diver in the region, said that the Caretta caretta returned to the beach of Kamari which was where it was born many decades ago because the turtle realized it was nearing its death.
