Ticket Machines Destroyed With Sledgehammers at Athens Rail Station


Sledgehammers and iron bars were used to destroy electronic ticket machines at the electric railway station (ISAP) in Perissos, north of Athens.
According to witnesses a group of 15 people, who had their faces covered, stormed the station on Wednesday night.
The vandals, caused extensive damage to the newly installed equipment and disappeared before police arrived.
There have been dozens of cases of vandalism in metro stations and buses in the last months.
Vandals usually target the new, state-of-the-art equipment, installed in metro and electric railway stations in the Greek capital.
The new equipment was introduced to crack down on fare dodgers.
