Sensational Drone Footage Emerges as Kythira Fire Contained (video)

After four days the wildfire in the Greek island of Kythira appears to be getting under control on Monday.
The general secretary of the Civil Protection Agency Yiannis Kapakis said that “the situation is better in Kythira. There is currently no active fire front.”
He stressed that all firefighting forces are on alert for any possible reigniting.
“There are still flames in the burned areas, especially in the southwest of the island, which are tackled by firefighting forces on the ground, but also by the aerial means. There is no longer an active front. We are cautiously optimistic,“ a spokesperson of the Fire Service said.
No homes were lost in the fire, but the blaze is estimated to have consumed at least 2,000 hectares of forest and farmland.
Some 116 firefighters on the ground, backed up by 38 fire engines, were still operating on the island Monday. They were assisted by two water-dropping aircraft and one helicopter.
Meanwhile, a video footage from a drone has appeared in the Greek media, showing the extent of devastation in Kythira.
The video was filmed on Saturday.
