Greek Capital Becomes a Ghost City as Athenians Take a Holiday (photos)


As most Athenians have fled the city by ships, planes, cars, trains and buses, the center of the Greek capital seems literally deserted.
Most Greeks take their annual holiday around Assumption Day, on August 15.
The few that have remained, chose a beach near Athens to cool down from the intense heat.
Over the weekend, apart from tourists, the Greek capital resembled a ghost city. Peaceful, calm, no cars, no noise, no stress. A different, more humane kind of Athens.
