Migrant Arrivals from Turkey on the Rise Again

A new rush of arrivals of migrants from the Turkish shores resulted in 633 people landing on Greek islands between Friday and Monday, according to the Hellenic Coast Guard.
Specifically, 147 asylum seekers arrived on Lesvos, 256 on Chios and 230 on Samos, as good weather conditions gave traffickers the opportunity to transport people in the Aegean.

There was also increased migrant smuggling activity at the Greek-Turkish border in the past three days. On Sunday, on the Old National Highway Thessaloniki-Serres and on Egnatia Odos (Dervene Node), police took custody of 53 undocumented migrants, including 24 minors.
According to the police, the migrants admitted they had paid 2,000 euros each to the traffickers, and entered Greece through the border with Turkey in Evros.
