Athens-Thessaloniki Rail Line Closed After Train Derails Near Sperchios

The railway line between Athens and Thessaloniki was shut down on Saturday after a goods train derailed in the Sperchios area early in the morning.
Two passenger trains, one in Bralos that was bound for Thessaloniki and one in Lianokladi that was bound for Athens, were unable to complete their journeys as a result.
Some 550-600 passengers trapped on board each of the two trains continued their journey on buses, while the line is expected to reopen late in the afternoon. During that time, passengers will carry out a part of their journey on buses.
