Huge banners in support of the Greek claim for the return of Parthenon marbles to Greece, were hoisted by APOEL’s supporters during Tuesday’s Champions League clash against English giants Tottenham Hotspur.
Taking advantage from the fact that the match was transmitted live in the UK, the APOEL supporters hoisted the banners, in order to gain maximum publicity.
The banners read: “Bring the Marbles Back” and “History Cannot be Stolen”.
On the football pitch, however, the English club scored an emphatic victory beating the champions of Cyprus by 3-0, wth a Harry Kane hat-trick.
APOEL had a number of good chances in both halves, but were ultimately put to the sword by the lethal English striker.
