Greek FinMin Tsakalotos: The Third Review will Conclude on Time

Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos referred to the new environment created for the Greek economy, the conclusion of the third review and the country’s exit from the crisis in an interview with the Sunday newspaper Nea Selida.
Tsakalotos expressed his certainty that additional measures will not be necessary in 2018. Asked if there will be a change in the eurozone’s architecture, he said that the important decisions are reached at 4 in the morning at a Eurogroup meeting and under heavy pressure. “I believe that there is increased understanding for the social and regional inequalities which are the main reason for the crisis of the political representation as well as the for the general view that the eurozone and EU do not solve the problems”.
He estimated that the third review will conclude on time because the IMF is in the programme and there is no reason to set new issues on the table adding that there are no difficult bills in the prior actions and finally the trust in the Greek government has increased which is something that accelerates the procedures.
Referring to the banks issue, he said that the issue has been solved and there is an agreement with the IMF that the SSM will conduct the stress tests without AQRs as Mario Draghi said recently.
“We want to start substantial discussions on the exit from the programme and on the debt relief in 2018 so we have all incentives to complete on time the third review” noted Tsakalotos.
On the Bank of Greece, Tsakalotos said that “of course it has the right to express views on issues of economic policy”.
Finally, he called it “amusing” when he reads articles referring to supposed conflicts with prime minister Alexis Tsipras.
