Anarchists Handed Suspended Six-Month Sentence Over Spain Embassy Burst

Eighteen members of the self-proclaimed anarchist group Rouvikonas received a six-month suspended jail sentence by a misdemeanors court on Thursday for bursting into the Spanish embassy in central Athens on Wednesday.
The court dismissed the charge of illegal violence requested by the prosecutor but accepted those of disruption of domestic peace, and of refusing to be fingerprinted. The last charge included a fine of 400 euros for each defendant.

The defendants pleaded innocent saying they wanted to protest for the repression exercised by the Spanish government and added that the Spanish embassy has not pressed charges against them.
The group threw leaflets and hung a banner over the roof of the embassy to protest against police violence during the Catalan independence referendum vote on October 1.
