Public Sector Employees to Demonstrate Against Work Evaluation on Monday

The public sector employees’ union ADEDY will be staging a rally in central Athens on Monday to protest against the evaluation scheme proposed by the Ministry of Administrative Reform.
The civil servants will gather outside the ministry building on Vassilissis Sofias Avenue at 2 pm and are expected to disrupt traffic in central Athens.
Public sector employees oppose the evaluation plan, which is also a prerequisite set by Greece’s creditors for the third review of the bailout program. The evaluation of the civil servants’ performance is considered to be an important reform in labor laws.
The civil servants’ evaluation project was to go into effect under the previous Greek administration but it was vehemently opposed by SYRIZA, when the leftist party was the main opposition in the House.
Civil servants are opposed to the evaluation scheme over fears that it may lead to dismissals.
