Lesvos Registers Record Number of Migrant Arrivals in October


A record number of refugees and migrants arrived on Lesvos island in October this year; according to official data released on Wednesday.
A total of 2,216 people arrived on Lesvos in October, compared to 2,170 in September. Arrivals in previous months totalled as follows: 1,053 in August; 1,130 in July, 940 in June, 534 in May, 281 in April, 336 in March, 252 in February and 456 in January.
On all of the northern Aegean islands, there were 3,478 arrivals in October. Of these, 1,069 people arrived on Chios, and 193 on Samos, a decrease of arrivals for 2017.
The Turkish Coast Guard announced that in October it intervened in 61 incidents within Turkish territorial waters, and sent back a total of 2,729 people to Turkey.
