Lesvos: 10-Year-Old Drowned in Boat Carrying 66 Migrants

A 10-year-old boy was pulled out of the water unconscious on Friday after a Frontex patrol vessel found a boat carrying 66 migrants off Lesvos.
The child was transferred to the Vostaneio Hospital in Mytilene where his death was confirmed.
Meanwhile, 43 migrants and refugees were found on Friday after a Hellenic Coast Guard boat located them east of Chios.
All 43 migrants and refugees were rescued and transferred to the port of Lagadas on Chios.
In addition, on Friday, a Frontex craft that was patrolling under the European operation “POSEIDON 2017”, in collaboration with a special mission team of the Mytilene Central Port Authority, identified and rescued a sailboat carrying 51 migrants and refugees east of the Mytilene Port.
The Frontex vessel transferred the migrants and refugees to the Mytilene Port and arrested the 22-year-old boat operator on suspicion of being a migrant trafficker.
