The first snow started falling on Mount Pelion in central Greece and on Mount Chortiatis near Thessaloniki, on Monday.
Temperatures dropped across the country following weeks of unseasonably warm weather.
In Pelion, the snow covered the village of Chania located on the peak and the adjacent ski centre of “Agriolefkes”.
Chania currently has 5cm of snow, and there is over 10cm on the ski slopes; but they are not open yet for skiers. The roads around the mountain are open and the regional authority of Thessaly said that they sent two snow plough vehicles that are to remain on standby.

Further north, snow fell on Mount Chortiatis near Thessaloniki, and at high altitudes in Chalkidiki.

Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday were expected to range from 1-5 Celsius in central and southern Greece; 6-11 on the islands of the Ionian and northern Aegean; 8-16 in the rest of the Aegean, and 12-16 in Crete and Rhodes.
In central Athens, temperatures will be a cool 7-11 degrees Celsius; dropping in the mountains surrounding the capital, and bringing sleet and snow to altitudes of above 400 metres.
The weather in Thessaloniki will be overcast with the threat of sporadic showers, and temperatures will range from 1-6 Celsius.
