13 Years Later: The Greek Girl who Won Fame at Athens 2004 (photos)

One of the most enduring memories of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 was the young girl who blew out the Olympic Flame in the closing ceremony.

The little girl with the green eyes and slightly sad look was engraved in the memory of all those who watched that spectacular ceremony

Today Fotini Papaleonidopoulou is 23 years old. She is a graduate of biology from the University of Patras.

In a recent appearance on a Greek TV chat show she revealed that initially she did not want to participate in the closing ceremony. She changed her mind and she has no regrets, she said.

She loves reading, learning foreign languages and sports.

Her dream was to become a doctor. “When I was little I wanted to be a doctor to save the children in Africa and find the cancer drug.”

Her plans changed later on. At high school, she liked Biology and she began to imagine herself as a successful scientist.

“I now have the opportunity to make my dream come true and work on something that I can offer to society, “says Fotini.
