Intense gusts of wind and heavy rain battered the northern city of Chania during the last couple of days. These severe weather conditions forced the organizers of the Santa Run traditional Christmas solidarity celebration to postpone the event until next Tuesday.
While rain also affected the rest of the island, snow fell on the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) as well as the on Psiloritis, in the nearby prefecture of Rethymno. Flights suffered delayed departures and ferry schedules have been modified, passengers of ANEK Lines, Blue Star Ferries, and Minoan Lines are requested to call the local Port Authorities in order to check if ships will depart or not.
