A vessel carrying 29 migrants and refugees ran aground in bad weather on Megas Lakkas beach near Lyxouri, Kefallonia after one of its engines broke down. The boat, which was washed ashore on Friday night, had set sail for Europe when it was caught in a severe storm near the islands of Kefallonia and Zakynthos, with wind speeds reaching 9 Beaufort.
Among those on board were 10 children and five women, in addition to 14 men. All are reported to be in good health and they are expected to depart for Athens on Saturday after spending the night in a boarding house on the island.
