Bad Weather Behind Drop in Migrant Arrivals

Bad weather is being cited as the reason behind a significant drop in the number of migrants and refugees landing on the islands of the northern Aegean in the last 15 days.
Two arrivals involving 76 people were recorded on Lesvos between Jan. 11 and 24 and five arrivals involving 188 people took place on Samos. No arrivals were reported on Chios.
A total of 1,061 people arrived at the islands in January.
According to the Turkish Coast Guard, there were 30 attempts by migrants and refugees to reach the Greek coast in January and 1,283 people were sent back to the Turkish coast.
