FRONTEX: Migratory Flows to Greece Down in January

The number of irregular migrants to enter Greece in January dropped 43 percent compared to the previous month, as there were 1,850 recorded arrivals, FRONTEX – the EU’s border security agency – said.
According to the agency, Syrians and Iraqis were the most represented nationalities on the Eastern Aegean route, mainly coming from Turkey and landing on Greek islands.
The number of migrant arrivals in January was similar to the number of January 2017.
Italy, however, received double the number of irregular migrants compared to December, as 4,800 asylum seekers arrived in its shores from what FRONTEX calls the Central Mediterranean route.
