Greek Man Faces Charges After Football Fight in Athens

A Greek man embroiled in Thursday’s brawl among football fans in the Kolonaki area of Athens faced a prosecutor on Friday.

Police arrested 16 people after fighting broke out ahead of a UEFA Europa League clash between Dynamo Kiev and AEK Athens.

The Greek national was found to be carrying an offensive weapon, reports state.

The other detainees were released.

Although some reports claimed the fighting took place between Ukrainian fans and Russians, the Dynamo Kiev fans had already been threatened by far-left groups in Athens ahead of their arrival.
