Draft Medical Cannabis Bill Arrives in Greek Parliament

Provisions for the production of medical marijuana products were introduced in a draft bill to the Greek parliament this week, with a vote planned for after the weekend.
The draft law approves the production, possession, transport, supply of raw materials and substances of cannabis varieties of the Cannabis Sativa L which contains more than 0.2 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
It also approves the establishment and operation of processing plants and production of finished medicinal products for the sole purpose of either supplying the state monopoly and dispensing it for medical purposes or exporting it.
The purpose of the bill is to create the framework for the production of pharmaceutical cannabis products, allowing individuals to become active in this field.
According to the bill’s Impact Assessment Report, “this opens up a new field of entrepreneurship – which exploits the productive advantages of the country (climatic conditions, soil) – and thus promises new jobs and exports, on the other hand facilitates and regulates patient access to medicinal cannabis products in the country”.
