High-ranking Golden Dawn member Ilias Kasidiaris on Tuesday launched a verbal attack againstĀ Muslim SYRIZA MP Mustafa Mustafa, during a closed session of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
Kasidiaris demanded the removal of the Muslim lawmaker and used “unacceptable” language, according to a parliament source, calling the Muslim MP a “Turk”. The Golden Dawn MP tried to justify his behavior saying that during the recent visit ofĀ Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Greece, he had described the four Muslim lawmakers in the Greek Parliament as “our MPs.”
New Democracy, SYRIZA and the Democratic Coalition condemned the incident and the Golden Dawn lawmaker’s overall behavior, claiming that the incident plays into the hands of Turkish propaganda regarding Greece’s Muslim community.
Tensions rose to the point that the parliament guard was ready to intervene and remove Kasidiaris from the room. Finally things cooled down and the session continued.
After the incident, the Golden Dawn lawmaker spoke to News24/7 saying that, “We were surprised to see the SYRIZA MP Mustafa appear and participate in this meeting, who, according to Erdogan’s irrefutable statement is one of his own. Golden Dawn demanded that this man be removed from the room so that no crucial State secrets leak to Turkey.”
