Schoolkids Send Messages of Support to Greek Soldiers Held in Turkey

Pupils at a primary school in a town near Thessaloniki have created postcards with messages of support for two Greek soldiers being held in a Turkish prison.

The messages from the pupils at Evosmos read: “Do not be afraid boys, the Greeks never feared the Turks” and “Our beloved soldiers, we send this message to help you endure the jail”.

The photos were posted on Facebook a day after a Turkish judge rejected an appeal by the lawyers for the two Greek soldiers, who accidentally crossed the border last Thursday, for their release from custody in Edirne.
The show of support from the Greek pupils comes as Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras warned Ankara that any attempt to to take advantage of the incident would be detrimental to Turkey.
Meanwhile, the Athens Bar Association announced on Tuesday it is prepared to offer any form of legal support to the Greek soldiers, if requested.
In a statement issued by its board, the association said it is ready to cooperate with the Greek authorities on the issue and its president, Dimitris Vervesos, has already sent a letter explaining its intention to the government.
