3+1 Amazing Day Trips From Athens

Athens is a great base to experience vacations all over Attica region.
Just about an hour away, one will discover great beaches, mountains, ancient monuments, museums, hundreds of outdoor activities, bars, great restaurants and top street food.
Here are four-day trips you can take just outside the Greek capital!
Temple of Poseidon and Sounio for culture and swimming

Admire the magnificent temple of Poseidon which was constructed in 444–440 BC. This was during the ascendancy of the Athenian statesman Pericles, who also rebuilt the Parthenon in Athens.
It was built on the ruins of a temple dating from the Archaic period. It is perched above the sea at a height of almost 60 metres (200 ft). T
There are lots of options for swimming (organized beaches), food (tons of taverns) and cafe’s to enjoy the sunset along the way to Sounio.
Artemis (Loutsa) for swimming, windsurfing, kiteboard, SUP

The are lots of taverns and cafes by the sea. We suggest to go to Old Artemis city (there is New Artemis of course) and get a table or sun lounge at Albatros bar, you will find great music and you can windsurf all day.

Loutraki & Iraio Temple, near Corinth

Loutraki is a great small town by the sea which also hosts superb thermal spa installations (both indoors and outdoors) along with massage therapies.
The town has lots of options for food too. Make sure to visit the Heraion temple (has a beach right next to ancient ruins) and the lighthouse at the top.
Parnitha mountain

Parnitha mountain is fantastic for hiking and has pretty great food at 2 of the summits called Mpafi and Flabouri.
The Casino of Athens is also situated on mountain Parnitha. You can take a public bus and in less than 1 hour you will arrive at the funicular parking of the casino. Hop on (free) and you will arrive at the top. From there you can hike from the dirt road towards the summits or take the asphalt road.
The view from the summits is spectacular as all Athens is seen from 1160mt.
