Video has emerged of the moment Greek riot police and protesters clashed in central Athens as demonstrators tried to cut down a statue of former U.S. leader Harry S. Truman.
As the protest over Syrian airstrikes grew spilled over into violence, police and demonstrators can been seen trading blows. At one moment an officer falls to the ground and is kicked and punched by two protesters.
Police can also be seen striking demonstrators with batons. Some protesters then flee into traffic to escape. The crowd also scatters as tear gas is fired by police.
An eyewitness told news agency Reuters that three people were injured by police in the fracas.
