Berlin Ends Frontier Checks on Greek Flights

Air passengers with Schengen passports who arrive in Germany from Greece will no longer face special security checks at the border.
In October last year Germany extended border checks for another six months, limiting the internal controls to the Austrian land frontier and to flights from Greece.
Border controls were introduced for flights from Greece in 2015 after the European Commission advised some member states to take measures to deal with the refugee crisis.
According to media reports on Wednesday, Germany’s Interior Minister Horst Seehofer told the European Commission of the move, although it is thought the checks on the Austrian border will continue for at least six more months.
The refugee crisis and the threat of terrorism were blamed for the German move which reintroduced border checks into the Schengen free-movement zone of 26 European countries.
