Rising Chinese Orchestra Tours Greece

Greek audiences have a rare chance to admire performances by the Hangzhou Philharmonic, a rising Chinese orchestra.
The orchestra performed on Monday evening at the Athens Concert Hall and will perform on Wednesday at the city port of Thessaloniki in northern Greece.
Yang Yang, its artistic director and chief conductor, impressed the Greek audience by performing demanding masterpieces, such as Richard Wagner’s Der fliegende Hollander’s Overture, Dmitri Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances.
In 2006 Yang Yang won first prize at the Dimitri Mitropoulos International Competition for Conductors, in Athens.
Award-winning, Berlin-based and internationally acclaimed Chinese violinist Ning Feng is collaborating with the orchestra in its European tour which will also see the orchestra perform in Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Hungary.
The Athens Concert Hall has hosted many Chinese artists in recent years, as Greeks show an increasing interest to get acquainted with Chinese culture.
