Hellenic Police are investigating the murder of former high-ranking police officer who was gunned down outside a taverna in Pallini, early Tuesday morning.
The 57-year-old was shot several times in the parking lot of the taverna in Pallini. The handgun used was a 7.65mm; which is a pistol often used by gangs from the former Eastern Bloc.
According to a Protothema.gr report, the man tried to go back to the taverna to ask for help but he fell before he could reach the door.
The ex-police officer was carrying a substantial amount of money with him, and due to previous posts of the 57-year-old, police are investigating various scenarios.
The man, who had served in the counter terrorism unit and the drug squad, was chief of police at the Filothei station, 20 years ago.
At the time he had been investigated by the internal affairs department for being involved in a ring that was giving residence permits to foreigners and selling protection to night clubs and massage parlors employing foreign women. However, after the investigation all the charges against him had been dropped.
