Turkish National Arrested for Crossing Greek Border

Greece police arrested a Turkish national who crossed into the country’s territory with a digging machine near the border village of Kastanies at Evros.
Greek officials say that the man is an employee at the municipality of Edirne who was carrying out construction work near the Turkish customs office in the area when he strayed across the border.

Local sites have published photos of the digging machine

Turkish media report that the arrested man is Musa Alerik who was called with his digger from the Edirne Municipality to the border line to renew a water pipeline. T
he digger was working in the customs bonded area when it accidentally crossed into Greek territory after it had finished working, says Daily Sabah.
Other Turkish outlets publish photos of Alerik driving a digger, or posing in front of a lorry.

It is not clear if and when the Turkish national will be released to return home.
Two Greek soldiers remain in a Turkish jail in Edirne awaiting trial after inadvertently crossing into Turkish territory on March 1.
