FYROM: Important to Have a Quality, Mutually Acceptable Solution to Naming Issue

It is important to achieve a quality and mutually acceptable solution that is sustainable and will protect and enhance the dignity and identity of our citizens, the official announcement of the FYROM government says.
In an announcement that analysts find very “diplomatic”, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia administration essentially does not answer to Greece’s positions regarding irredentist articles in the country’s Constitution, or the demand for a name for all uses, both domestic and international (erga omnes).
The official announcement further says that “regional media speculation at these sensitive moments cannot contribute to this strategic national interest objective,” adding that building a relationship of friendship between the two countries is a big bet for the common future and cooperation of the two neighbors.
Meanwhile, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is still waiting for a crucial phone call from his Skopje counterpart Zoran Zaev. Two weeks ago, after the completion of talks between the foreign ministers of the two countries, it was announced that teams of the two sides work to iron out technical details and legal issues so that the two prime ministers can have the final talks on the name.
The final telephone talks between the two leaders were scheduled to take place until the Friday before last. Yet, Zaev has not called Tsipras yet and the delay leads to speculation as to whether the two sides are close to a deal or the differences that remain are important.
According to the last Greek government announcement, the three names on the negotiations table are “New Macedonia”, “Upper Macedonia” and “North Macedonia”.
