Greek Hunger-Striker Protest Moves to Acropolis

A banner in support of jailed N17 hitman Dimitris Koufodinas — currently on hunger strike — was unfurled by activists on the famous Acropolis Hill of Athens on Thursday.
Koufodinas — currently serving a number of life sentences for crimes including murder — had been seeking more prison leave after a pair of two-day releases earlier this year.  However, the previous prison leave had sparked anger from victims’ families.
There has been a wave of actions in Athens in recent weeks by far-left groups in support of the jailed gunman’s quest for more prison leave.
On Tuesday a group of assailants vandalized the premises of the Hellenic American Union (HAU) in the Kolonaki district of central Athens.
A number of arrests were later made, amid criticism of the authorities for their seeming inability to prevent the activists from storming offices and workplaces as well as carrying out vandalism attacks at will.
