Balkan Summit Kicks Off in Greece's Thessaloniki

The four leaders at a previous summit

Leaders of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia are gathering in Thessaloniki for a summit expected to focus on the prospects of the Western Balkans joining the European Union, security issues and coordination on migration.
This is the fourth quadrilateral meeting of the Balkan leaders that comes a few weeks after the EU decided to start accession talks with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) and Albania.
Prime ministers of Greece Alexis Tsipras, Bulgaria Boiko Borisov, Romania Viorica Dancila and the president of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic are also expected to discuss projects related to infrastructure, transport and energy.
The Thessaloniki meeting is also seen as an effort to coordinate the four countries’ positions on a number of key issues ahead of a meeting of the leaders of China and the countries of Eastern Europe and the Balkans in Sofia on Saturday and the Western Balkans Summit of the Berlin Process, which will be held in London next week.
