A boat carrying about 150 migrants sank off the coast of northern Cyprus on Wednesday, leaving 19 dead and 25 missing, Turkey‘s coast guard said, according to Reuters.
The coast guard rescued 103 migrants by boats and helicopters 18 miles off the coast of northern Cyprus, aided by nearby commercial boats. However, about 25 people who were on board are missing and rescuers try to find them.
According to Reuters, one of the passengers was in critical condition and was transferred to northern Cyprus by helicopter.
The boat carrying the migrants was spotted by a Panama-flagged commercial ship about 25 nautical miles from Turkey’s southern province of Antalya and alerted the coast guard on Wednesday morning, the Turkish statement said.
