Greece’s National Women’s water polo team won the silver medal in the 2018 European Championship after losing to the Netherlands 4-6 on Friday.
The Greek team will return from Barcelona with the silver medal after failing to win the match against the competitive Dutch team.
This was the third time this decade that the Greek women left the European Championship with the silver, after 2010 and 2012.
The Netherlands wins gold after not being able to become the best team in Europe for 25 years.
The score in the four eight-minute periods was: 2-1, 4-3, 5-3, 6-4
Greece’s coach Giorgos Morfesis said after the game: “We wanted to make Greeks smile a little, after the unbelievable tragedy of previous Monday… Our minds and thoughts are with them (the fire victims).”
