Flood in Athens Leaves People Trapped in Cars, 2 Metro Stations Closed (video)

A heavy thunderstorm that hit Athens on Sunday afternoon left homes and roads flooded, and people trapped in vehicles, while authorities closed two Metro stations.
The Fire Department has received 190 calls for road help, water pumping, and tree cutting, while some main roads have been flooded and closed to traffic. Many calls were from drivers who were trapped in their vehicles.
The biggest problems appeared in the northern suburbs and the center of the capital. The Nomismatokopeio and Panormou Metro stations were shut down because they were flooded.
The Galatsi, Ampelokipi, Melissia, Glyfada, Agia Paraskevi, Filothei and Papagou neighborhoods received the worst rainfall, while the bridge on the crossing of Mesogeion and Katehaki avenues also closed.
