Greece Promises Swift Payment of Disaster Relief to Fire Victims

The Greek government will pay out the emergency relief subsidy to fire victims as quickly as possible, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis said.
The one-off benefit is available to people and businesses that sustained damage in the destructive fires in Rafina, Marathon and Kineta on July 23-24.
It amounts to 5,000 euros for residences, 6,000 euros for families with three or more children and 8,000 euros for businesses.
Visiting the makeshift office near the town of Rafina where applications for relief are handled, the minister said that the procedure is easy and with almost no bureaucratic delays.
“Now we are fighting a new battle to quickly pay the money into people’s accounts directly. To be at their side after this disaster. The next battle will be that of restoring the burnt areas, to quickly make them better than they were before,” he added.
