Greece Scales Back Military Cooperation with Turkey over Soldiers' Imprisonment

Greece’s military has reportedly suspended military cooperation with Turkey over the two Greek soldiers still in confinement in Edirne.
In a report carried by Greek newspaper Kathimerini on Monday, it was claimed that a number of “confidence-building measures” with Turkey would be put on ice for the rest of 2018.
These measures are thought to include exchange programs for military academy graduates plus cultural and sporting activities.
Second Lieutenant Angelos Mitroudis and Sergeant Dimitris Kouklatzis have been held in a jail in Edirne since early March when they mistakenly crossed the Turkish border in poor weather at the Evros river.
Since then, Turkey’s president has explicitly linked their case with that of the eight Turkish soldiers seeking asylum in Greece after fleeing their country following the July 2016 coup attempt.
