Woman Who Lost Family in Greek Fires Launches Lawsuit

Senior members of the Greek authorities are being sued by a woman who lost her husband, son and daughter in July’s deadly Attica fires.
Varvara Voukaki’s lawsuit is directed at seven officials, including Interior Minister Panos Skourletis plus the former heads of the police and fire services.
It is alleged a failure to communicate and coordinate properly exacerbated the impact of the fires, which claimed 96 lives so far.
Meanwhile, the Athens Prosecutor’s Office is continuing to investigate the East Attica fires which also left dozens injured and hundreds of properties destroyed.
Witnesses and victims of the fires continue to testify to the public prosecutor. The office is determining criminal responsibility for the deadly impact of the blazes.
