Greece and Turkey to Resume Some Confidence Building Activities

On Monday, Greece announced that suspensions on some confidence building activities with Turkey are to be lifted, according to the country’s Defense Minister and the head of the Armed Forces.
The decision to lift the suspension on activities such as the exchange of military academy graduates, as well as sporting and cultural activities came following the release of the two Greek soldiers on August 14 who were held in Turkey on alleged charges of espionage for 167 days pending their trial.
“After the latest developments and the release of the two Greek soldiers, Defense Minister Panos Kammenos and the chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA), Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, decided to lift the suspension of talks … on confidence building measures with Turkey,” the ministry press release said.
