17 Year-Old Greek Wins European Youth Chess Championship


Evgenios Ioannidis, a 17-year-old Greek chess player has won first place at the European Youth Chess Championship 2018, which was held in Riga, Latvia.
Ioannidis gained first position in the tournament being undefeated throughout the entire competition, with six wins and three draws.

With 7.5 points in 9 matches, he achieved the highest result and won the title of European Champion for 2018 in the under-18 category.
In Evgenios’ group, there were 75 chess players from 37 countries who competed in total.
For the young Greek chess player from Thessaloniki it was the second European gold medal in his career. In 2011 he won in the under 10 years-old category.
